The Example You’re Setting May Not Be What You Think

There’s something I didn’t realize for a long time.

The way I was living…
was teaching something.

It wasn’t coming from what I said.

It was coming from what I kept doing.

People were watching me handle things, fix things, carry things…

and I never stopped to ask what that was showing them.

I didn’t wake up one day carrying everything.

It happened gradually.

I said yes to one thing…
then another…

and over time, it just became normal.

If I’m honest, I can see why I did it.

I didn’t want to let anyone down.
I knew I could make things work.
And deep down, I felt responsible for how things turned out.

Have you ever felt like that?

Like if you step back…
something important might fall apart?

There was a moment when the Lord interrupted me.

I was standing in my bedroom, and I felt His presence so strongly.

It was as if He was right there in front of me…

And I could almost hear His voice saying:

“Just let Me know when you’re done.”

I knew exactly what He meant.

I had crossed into something that wasn’t mine.

I had taken ownership of things He never asked me to carry.

I was even stepping into roles that belonged to Him.

He reminded me of this truth:

God is absolutely capable of running the universe without me.

I thought I was being faithful.

I showed up.
I followed through.
I handled what needed to be handled.

Those things looked right.

But I wasn’t checking with God to see if those were things He wanted me to do.

And that’s where things changed.

Because there is a difference between:

being able to do something,
and being assigned.

When those two get mixed up, something subtle happens.

You keep adding things and stepping in.

You keep carrying more than you were given.

Eventually, it stops feeling like a choice. It’s just what you do.

💖 You’ve become the one people rely on
💖 You handle what others leave undone
💖 You follow through, no matter what

Those are real strengths.

But they can quietly become a weight you were never meant to live under.

It doesn’t stay contained to your life either.

Because others are watching.

Have you ever considered what others are learning from you?

They’re not just seeing your results.

They’re seeing your pattern.

They see how much you carry.
They watch how quickly you step in.
And, they notice that you rarely let something go.

That shapes their expectations of what “faithfulness” should look like in them.

At some point, I had to slow down and bring everything to the Lord.

Everything.

I started asking:

“Is this mine… or did I just pick this up along the way?”

That question changed everything.

God kept some things on my plate.

But other things He told me needed to go.

The decisions didn’t always make sense at first.

But, little by little, they brought clarity.

And that clarity brought peace.

Peace didn’t come from finishing everything.

It came from releasing what never belonged to me.

God knows what He has entrusted to you,

and sees what you’ve been carrying that He never gave you.

When you sit at His feet…
open His Word…
and share your heart with Him in prayer…

He will show you and make it clear what He wants.

  💖 Peace will replace pressure
💖 Clarity will remove confusion about decisions in front of you
