Feeling Overwhelmed: How to Anchor Your Soul in God Instead Of Running

Feb 26, 2026
Soft florals, an open notebook, and a quiet cup of coffee invite you to slow down. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and tempted to react with panic, Feeling Overwhelmed: How to Anchor Your Soul in God Instead of Running will guide you through biblical truths that steady your heart, quiet anxious thoughts, and help you anchor your soul in God’s peace.

“Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast…”

Hebrews 6:19

Some days feel like emotional whiplash.

Deadlines stack up.
Someone misunderstands you.
The inbox fills.
Your thoughts spiral.

And suddenly, you want to run.

 Watch before you continue reading...

Not physically, necessarily.

But mentally. Emotionally. Spiritually.

You want to shut down. Avoid. Quit. Start over. Scrap the whole thing.

If you’re honest, sometimes the overwhelm isn’t about the task, it’s about the pressure.

And here’s what I’ve learned:

Running doesn’t restore your soul.

Anchoring does.

Why Overwhelm Makes You Want to Quit

Overwhelm often isn’t about workload.

It’s about feeling out of control.

And when you feel out of control, your instinct is to escape.

Escape the project.
Escape the commitment.
Escape the leadership.

But Ecclesiastes 7:8 reminds us:

“Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof:

and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.”

Finishing requires patience. In other words, it requires perseverance and resilience.

And perseverance and resilience require anchoring.

Because finishing isn’t about force.

It’s about steadiness.

Step 1: Pause Before You React

When your thoughts spin, do not make decisions.

Do not send the email.
Do not rewrite the plan.
Do not cancel the commitment.

Pause.

Psalm 46:10 says,
“Be still, and know that I am God.”

Stillness feels counterproductive.

But it is protective.

Try this:

  πŸ’– Turn off the noise
πŸ’– Set a timer for five minutes
  πŸ’– Sit without fixing anything
  πŸ’– Whisper, “Lord, anchor me.”

You are not falling behind.

You are preventing drift.

Step 2: Name the Lie Driving the Panic

When you feel like running, ask:

What am I believing right now?

Often it sounds like:

“If I can’t do this perfectly, I shouldn’t do it at all.”
“If someone is disappointed, I’ve failed.”
“This is too much. I can’t handle it.”

Those are fear-based beliefs.

But Scripture says:

“God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.”

1 Corinthians 14:33

If confusion is loud, it is not coming from Him.

Truth sounds steady.

Truth says:

God is sovereign.
God is not rushed.
God is not panicked.

And if He isn’t panicked, you don’t have to be either.

Step 3: Anchor in Scripture, Not Feelings

Feelings fluctuate.

Truth does not.

Hebrews 6:19 calls hope an anchor of the soul, sure and steadfast.

Anchors don’t remove the storm.

They prevent drifting.

Build an Anchor List.

Write down verses you return to when overwhelm rises:

πŸ’– “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee…” Isaiah 26:3
πŸ’– “Be careful for nothing…” Philippians 4:6–8
πŸ’– “God is not the author of confusion…” 1 Corinthians 14:33

Keep them visible.

Let Scripture interrupt your spiral.

Anchoring isn’t passive.

It is active surrender.

From Reaction to Stewardship

Here’s what changes when you anchor instead of run:

You don’t quit mid-project.
You don’t abandon assignments out of emotion.
You don’t let panic rewrite your purpose.

This is deeply connected to how God uniquely created you for His purpose, not someone else’s. You can read more about that here:

πŸ”—Uniquely Created by God for a Purpose

You respond instead of react.

You stay steady, which allows you to persevere.

And perseverance leads to finishing.

Overwhelm tempts you to abandon what matters.

Anchoring allows you to complete it faithfully.

Why This Matters for Christian Women Leaders

Many Christian women love God deeply but lead from internal pressure instead of rest.

They serve faithfully but feel emotionally scattered.

They begin with vision but falter under stress.

But you were not created to live in constant internal noise.

You were created to be:

  🌟 Steady
  🌟 Anchored
  🌟 Rooted
  🌟 Faithful

Finishing what God has assigned requires anchoring your soul when pressure rises.
