Christian Women: Stop Glorifying Busy and Start Living from Rest

Feb 16, 2026

Have you ever answered the question, “How are you?” with one word?

“Busy.”

Not just as information.

But almost as proof.

Proof that you matter.
Proof that you’re productive.
Proof that you’re doing enough.

Many Christian women wear “busy” like a badge of honor.

Exhaustion becomes evidence of faithfulness.

But that mindset quietly turns into a burden.

And it is not from God.

The Culture of Busy

We live in a culture that glorifies hustle.

But what’s more concerning is how easily that mentality seeps into Christian circles.

Serving more becomes equated with loving God more.
Doing more becomes equated with spiritual maturity.
Being exhausted becomes equated with obedience.

But Jesus said:

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28

He did not say:

“Come unto Me, and I will give you a longer to-do list.”

Rest is not rebellion.

It is invitation.

And when we ignore it, we drift into striving.

When Comparison Fuels the Pressure

I remember a season of my life when a friend would call me early in the morning and list everything she had already accomplished.

And at that time, I was not an early riser.

I did not hit the ground running.

And I felt "less-than."

Have you ever felt that way?

Someone else seems further ahead.

More disciplined.

More productive.

More, “together.”

And quietly, comparison begins whispering:

“You’re behind.”

But God created you uniquely.

If you measure your success by someone else’s calling, you will always feel like you’re failing.

Even if you achieve impressive things…

If they weren’t the things God assigned to you…

You will end your life having missed His purpose for creating you.

That is sobering.

And freeing.

Your Worth Is Not in Your Work

Christian women who are committed to excellence are especially vulnerable here.

We want to hear:

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
Matthew 25:21

But notice what it says.

Faithful.

Not frantic.

Not overloaded.

Not perpetually exhausted.

Faithful obedience is very different from performance perfection.

God does not measure your spiritual maturity by how many tasks you complete.

This connects deeply to how God uniquely created you for a specific purpose.

Your productivity does not prove your closeness to Him.

Your worth is not tied to your work.

 It is anchored in Christ.

If you are in Him, you are:

  💖 Already accepted

  💖 Already loved

  💖 Already secure

Learning to Say No

Here is where it becomes practical.

We must learn to say no.

No to the pressure.

No to unexamined expectations.

No to filling every available hour.

Because every “yes” costs something.

And if you say yes to everything, you cannot say yes to what God actually assigned to you.

Boundaries are not selfish.

They are stewardship.

To discern what God wants from you, you must sit at His feet.

You must be in His Word.

You must listen.

Because striving is loud.

But guidance is quiet.

And you cannot hear Him when your life is constantly running at full speed.

Leading from Grace, Not Guilt

There is a shift that must happen.

You stop living from guilt.

And you begin living from grace.

Grace allows you to stop when you are not finished.

Grace allows you to release what you cannot complete.

Grace allows you to trust that God’s timeline is better than your checklist.

If your to-do list is consistently unachievable…

If you go to bed feeling like you failed…

You may not need better time management.

You may need fewer commitments.

And deeper trust.

From To-Do List to Trust List

What if, instead of measuring your day by tasks, you measured it by faithfulness?

At the end of the day, ask:

Did I sit with God today?
Did I obey what He asked me to do?
Did I rest in His presence?

That is success in the Kingdom of God.

Not how much you accomplished.

But whether you walked with Him.

A Holy View of Rest

God rested on the seventh day.

Before sin entered the world.

Rest was part of creation.

It was not a recovery plan.

It was a design.

Rest is holy.

It is not laziness.

It is alignment.

And when you begin to believe that…

Burnout loses its grip.

If this resonates with you, I go deeper into performance pressure, comparison, and learning to lead from rest in this message.

Let’s stop glorifying busy.

Let’s stop wearing exhaustion like proof.

Let’s lead from rest.

Because God did not call you to burnout.

He called you to faithfulness.
