How to Seek Godโs Direction in Every Decision: What David Teaches Us About Guidance
“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Proverbs 3:6 (KJV)
One of the most consistent spiritual habits David practiced was asking God what to do, every single time.
He didn’t move without asking, “Do You want me to do this?” And if the answer was yes, he followed up with, “How do You want me to do it?”
That posture of dependence and trust is something we, as modern believers, need now more than ever.

Why David’s Example Matters Today
You and I live in a world filled with opinions, instant advice, and noise. But God’s way is quieter, slower, and rooted in relationship.
David didn’t hear God’s voice audibly every time, but he knew how to seek God:
๐ Through prayer
๐ Through listening
๐ Through the counsel of wise, godly leaders
And we can do the same.

Ask God Specifically
Don’t just pray in generalities. Ask real questions:
๐ “Lord, should I accept this opportunity?”
๐ “Do You want me to say yes to this project?”
๐ “How do You want me to respond in this conversation?”
The more specific your questions, the more you’ll recognize His direction.
And, if you're afraid of not making the perfect decision, you may want to watch Stop Chasing Perfection (How Christian Women Can Find Peace When They Feel “Not Enough”), where I talk more about this.

Listen Without an Agenda
You may not hear an audible voice, but He will lead you. It may be through Scripture, peace in your spirit, or wise counsel from someone godly.
But He promises to guide you.

and they follow me.”

Surround Yourself with Godly Counsel
David had prophets. You have pastors, mentors, and faith-filled friends.
Don’t go it alone. Ask those who live in the Word, and love the Lord, for wisdom.
“Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.”
Proverbs 11:14

When you don't hear God's direction clearly, remember that God uniquely created you for His purpose, not someone else’s, and wants you to find it.
You can read more about that here:

Trust the Promise of Proverbs 3:6
God says if we acknowledge Him in all our ways, He will direct our path.
This is not a maybe, it’s a promise.
So the next time you face a decision, pause and ask:
“Lord, what do You want me to do here?”
Like David, you’ll begin walking in step with God, decision by decision.
