Is This Dream From God? 5 Questions to Ask Before You Move Forward
You have a dream that keeps coming back.
You’ve tried to ignore it.
You’ve gotten busy.
You’ve told yourself you’ll think about it later.
But every once in a while, there it is again.
Write the book.
Start the business.
Take the trip.
Begin the ministry.
Finish what you started.
Make the change.

And when you’re a Christian woman who sincerely wants to follow God, there’s another question underneath all of those thoughts:
“Is this dream actually from God?”
That matters.
Because the goal isn’t to come up with a plan and ask God to bless it.
The goal is to hear Him and obey.
So before you push forward, stop.
Take the dream to God.
Here are five questions to help you begin.
1. Have You Actually Asked God About It?
This sounds obvious.
But it’s easy to think about a decision, research it, talk about it, make lists about it, ask friends about it...and forget to simply ask God.
I know.
I’ve done it.
You can spend hours trying to figure out something God wants you to bring to Him.
So begin here:
“Lord, is this from You?”
Then give Him room to answer.
You don’t have to rush.
You don’t need every detail today.
You need the next step.
2. Does It Agree With God’s Word?
God will never lead you contrary to His Word.
That means the Bible isn’t an optional part of discerning your next assignment.
It’s foundational.

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Psalm 119:105
Notice what a lamp does.
It gives you enough light to see where to step.
It doesn’t necessarily illuminate the entire road.
That’s difficult when you like knowing exactly how everything will work out.
But God often asks you to trust Him before He gives you all the details.
3. Are You Willing to Let God Say No?
This one can be harder.
You can want something so badly that your prayers quietly become:
“Lord, please tell me yes.”
But surrender sounds different.
“Lord, if this isn’t from You, I don’t want it.”
David wanted to build the temple.
It was a good dream.
A God-honoring dream.
And God said no.
David’s son Solomon would build it.
David still had an important role. He prepared for what Solomon would eventually accomplish.
His dream wasn’t foolish because God gave the assignment to someone else.
But David had to accept God’s answer.
Can you?

4. Is Fear Making the Decision Instead of God?
Sometimes you know what you’re supposed to do.
You’re simply afraid to do it.
👉 Fear of failure.
👉 Fear of what people will think.
👉 Fear that you won’t do it well.
👉 Fear that you’ll start and discover you aren’t capable.
👉 Fear that someone won’t approve.
That’s when you have to be careful not to rename fear wisdom.
I spent a long time researching before I started my online business.
I told myself I needed more information.
More answers.
More preparation.
But eventually I had to begin.
And I was 60 years old.
Since then, I’ve learned technology, built an email list of more than 12,000 people, spoken on stages and online, traveled, and accomplished dreams I once could have dismissed because I thought it was too late.
God didn’t have to give me the whole map.
I had to take the next step.

If you've gotten caught up comparing your life, your list, or your results to someone else…
remember this:
God created you uniquely for His purpose.
5. What Is Already in Your Hand?
Years ago, this question changed the direction of my life.
I had been around a woman whose gifts and ministry impressed me deeply.
She was organized. Gifted. Wise. Discerning. She drew women to her and taught them.
I came home wanting my life to make a greater impact.
But I couldn’t replicate her ministry.
I wasn’t her.
So instead of asking how I could become more like her, I began asking God what He wanted to do with me.
What had He already put in my hand?
Around that time, I had learned about blogging.
So I began.
I didn't need her gifts.
I needed to use mine.
And one of the posts I wrote was about this very question:
What is in your hand?
That question still matters.
God has already placed experiences in your life.
He has developed abilities in you.
He has given you a personality, testimony, relationships, resources, opportunities, and gifts that aren't identical to anyone else’s.
Stop looking at her hands.
Look at yours.

You Don’t Need the Whole Plan
Maybe you’ve been waiting because you want to know exactly what happens next.
I understand that.
But God has never been obligated to show us the entire journey before asking for obedience.
He can say:
💖 Go.
💖 Wait.
💖 Prepare.
💖 Stop.
💖 Not that. This.
Your responsibility isn’t controlling the outcome.
It’s staying close enough to hear Him.
So take the dream you’ve been carrying and ask:
“Lord, is this from You?”
“Is this for now?”
“What would You have me do next?”
And then be willing to hear His answer.
Because the goal isn't simply achieving your dream.
It’s becoming the woman who hears God, believes Him, obeys Him, and uses what He has put in her hand.
You don’t have to be her.
God uniquely created you.
And if He has given you the assignment, He knows exactly what He put inside you to fulfill it.
It’s not too late. Dare to dream.
