Just Because It Needs To Be Done… Doesn’t Mean It’s Yours

Just Because It Needs To Be Done… Doesn’t Mean It’s Yours

There are things that need to be done.

You can see them.

You can feel them.

You know they matter.

And because you’re capable…

and you care…

you step in.

Timestamp: 14:40 Not everything good is yours to do

I’ve done that.

Have you ever said yes…

even when your plate was already full?

I have.

Because I didn’t want things to fall apart.

I felt responsible to "save" things.

But, over time…

that became my default.

One "jumping in" at a time.

One yes after another.

Until my plate was overfull.

And then… heavy.

Not just physically.

Mentally.

Emotionally.

Spiritually.

There was always something more to think about.

Things to stay on top of.

Always something that needed my attention.

Even when I tried to rest…

I couldn’t fully let go.

Have you felt that way?

Like your body has stopped…

but your mind is still running at top speed?

That’s when I began to notice something deeper was happening.

Along with the pressure I felt…

I noticed something else.

There was a quiet sense of pride.

Have you ever thought to yourself,

"This will go well because I am involved in it.

I will make sure of it."

Have you ever felt that sense of responsibility or thought that?

There's almost a little bit of…

“Not on my watch.”

As though I'm saying, "It’s not going to fail if I have anything to say about it"?

That looks like responsibility on the outside.

Maybe even faithfulness.

But I began to wonder if there was something else going on.

Because I thought about how God had used "failure" in my life.

I began to ask, "What if what looks like 'failure'…

is something God has allowed and will use?"

"What if God’s not only using this 'failure,' but intending it for a purpose...?"

I realized that "failures" in my own life had been used the most by the Lord to change me.

I've said, "Trials transform more than triumphs."

God has used "failure" to shape my character and transform me to more Christ-likeness.

What if God intended a "failure" to shape someone else or me?

What if He intended "failure" to produce:

Humility.

Drawing someone back to Himself.

What if, in that "failure," He is working in ways you can't see…

and stepping in is actually interrupting something He’s doing?

That isn't an easy thought.

If you've gotten caught up comparing your life, your list, or your results to someone else…

remember this:

God created you uniquely for His purpose.

That isn't an easy thought, but it's an important one.

Not everything that needs to be done…

is yours to do.

Are you able to recognize that...

no matter how good it seems, or how much it needs to be done...

it's not automatically yours to do?

Not everything that is good…

has your name on it.

There’s another side to this that I don’t want you to miss.

We often forget that every yes costs you something.

Every time you say Yes to one thing...

you have to say No to something else.

You have a finite amount of time...

attention...

energy...

space and capacity in your life.

If you keep saying yes to things God hasn’t asked you to do

what is getting your no?

Is there anything God has put in your heart to do that you keep postponing because you don't have time, energy, or space for it?

💖 The book you’ve thought about writing for years

💖 The ministry you feel called to start

💖 The business idea you’d love to pursue

💖 The person God keeps bringing to your heart and mind

💖 Is there a dream you’ve quietly buried because there’s always something more urgent to do?

Maybe the question isn’t only:

“What do I need to release?”

Maybe there’s another question waiting behind it:

“Lord, what do You want me to make room for?”

Because God didn’t uniquely create you so you could spend your entire life doing everything everyone else needs done.

He has given you gifts.

Experiences.

Abilities.

People to influence.

Work that is uniquely yours.

And being faithful doesn’t mean saying yes to every good thing.

It means saying yes to God.

That realization requires something from you.

Trust.

Letting go.

Stepping back when you could step in.

And that’s where the tension is.

Because it feels like something is at risk.

But what I began to see…

is that I was never meant to carry everything.

I was meant to walk with God.

To hear Him.

To follow His lead.

Not to take over.

Not to manage outcomes.

But to obey.

That’s a very different way of living.

Because now…

instead of asking,

“What needs to be done?”

You begin to ask,

“God… is this mine?”

And then:

“What IS mine, Lord? What have You put in my heart to do?”

Those questions can change everything.

Because they create space.

Clarity.

Peace.

And room to faithfully pursue what God really has given you to do.
