What If God Isn't Finished With You Yet

What If God Isn't Finished With You Yet?

A few years ago, I began noticing something.

As we get older, we often become more “realistic.”

Or at least that’s what we may call it.

You stop expecting as much, stop dreaming, stop believing that God might do something …well… unexpected.

And, you might like this part especially:

Timestamp: 03:25 Who Is God Calling You to Become?

You don’t usually announce that you’ve given up on a dream.

You just simply stop talking about it, praying about it, and then you quietly place it on a shelf somewhere and tell yourself:

"That season has passed."

"Maybe that wasn't meant to be."

"I'm too old now."

"It's too late."

"I have too many responsibilities."

"I don't have the energy."

And if you've walked through disappointment, loss, heartbreak, betrayal, unanswered prayers, or difficult seasons, that process can happen so gradually you hardly notice it.

But I want to ask you something.

What if God isn't finished with you yet?

What if it has nothing to do with setting bigger goals, or trying harder, or even about becoming more successful?

I’m asking because I believe God’s still writing your story.

If you’re around me for very long, you will hear me say:

"If you've still got breath left, God's still got goals left for you to achieve."

And, I’ll tell you that finding His purpose is all about fulfilling His goals for your life.

His goals, His purpose, His plan.

Do you know what that is?

Have you quit asking Him what His assignment is for you, thinking you know what today and each day will look like?

The older I get, the more I realize there is a difference between my goals and His.

For years, I thought the most important question was:

"What should I do?"

Now I believe the more important question is:

"Lord, who do You want me to become?"

Because everything God calls us to do flows from who we are becoming.

That question changes everything.

Instead of constantly chasing goals and accomplishments, you begin paying attention to character.

Instead of asking how much you can get done, you begin asking what God is developing in you.

Perhaps this year, He wants to grow your patience, or your kindness, or your faith.

He definitely wants to grow your trust in Him.

Will this be the year He helps you overcome your fears?

He wants you to become less anxious, less dependent on your own strength, and more dependent on Him. That’s a given.

Those are goals worth pursuing and attainable with Him.

God was building Nehemiah before Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem’s walls.

Quietly, in private, Nehemiah was praying, preparing, and drawing closer to God in his heart. And, he cared deeply about what God cared about.

So, when Nehemiah heard that Jerusalem's walls were broken down, his heart broke.

And he began preparing.

He didn't just pray and wish things were different.

He thought, prayed, planned, and prepared.

So when the king finally asked:

"What’s the matter, Nehemiah? What do you want?"

Nehemiah was ready with an answer.

I’ve often thought,

“If Jesus asked me today, ‘What do you want Me to do for you?’ What would my answer be?”

If you've gotten caught up in comparison, feeling "less than," remember that God uniquely created you for His purpose, not anyone else’s, and He wants you to find it.

You can read more about that here: Uniquely Created by God for a Purpose

Do you know what your answer would be?

Nehemiah knew his answer.

Because he was ready, he could step through the door of opportunity that God had opened for him.

Has God prepared opportunities you’ve missed because you’ve forgotten that God still has important work for you to do?

How often might you have missed a season of preparation, believing that you knew what was going to happen in the future, and it wasn’t anything very important?

Friend, if you're alive, God still has a purpose for your life and goals for you to achieve.

That doesn't automatically mean He wants you to do more.

He may actually ask you to do less.

It may mean removing things from your plate.

Releasing responsibilities.

Letting go of others’ expectations and simplifying your life.

Not so that you can take it easy, but so that you can hear Him more clearly and He can prepare you.

The goal isn't activity. It’s obedience and fruitfulness. Fulfilling your purpose and His goals.

It isn’t so much about accomplishment as it is about faithfulness.

Your motivation isn’t success, but becoming the woman God created you to be.

And one day, when you stand before Him, I don't believe you'll wish you had been busier.

I think you'll be grateful for every moment you listened.

Grateful for every step of obedience you took and every assignment you completed.

You’ll thank God for every opportunity you prepared for when nobody else knew that God was doing anything at all.

Your story is not finished.

His dreams are very much alive.

And, your best years may be still ahead of you.

Ask God who He wants you to become and if there’s something He wants you to prepare for.

And surrender to the chapter He’s writing in you that you haven't begun to see yet.

Because if you've got breath left, God’s got goals left for you to achieve.
