When You Don’t Know What To Do Next…Do This

You were tempted to quit, but you feel God leading you forward.

but something in you knew you couldn’t walk away.

I've been there many times.

I turn to God and ask Him,

“Lord… what am I supposed to do now?”

 

God's Writing A Unique Story

I just honestly don't know what He wants me to do.

 

Sometimes I forget that my story is unique.

Do you ever do that?

I think my life is going to look like someone else's.

I try to walk closely with the Lord and stay faithful…

but, sometimes I start assuming things.

 

I think the next steps will be obvious.

I say to the Lord, "I know what's going to happen!"

And, I sometimes think the way He will lead me will look a lot like...

the way He's leading someone else.

But that’s almost never happened. 

If you've gotten caught up in comparing yourself, or copying others…

God created you uniquely for His purpose.

I'm the kind of person who likes to know in detail what's going to happen ahead of time.

But, whenever I think, "I know exactly what's going to happen," God seems to say to me, "Oh, really?"

 

God doesn't repeat a purpose or a life.

You are uniquely created by God.

Marvelously and wonderfully made.

And, a complete original.

 

And, God is detailed.

It's not that HE doesn't know everything that will happen.

But, if you look in the Bible, He didn't have the same purpose for two people, and He rarely told people the details or the long-range plan.

 

Whenever I have asked Him what He wants me to do, He gives me one step. 

“That’s it?” 

"Yes."

Because I like to know things ahead of time, knowing just the next step can be difficult for me.

But over the years, I've come to understand what He's doing.

His ways are better.

 

God doesn't ask me to figure everything out.

He asks me to trust Him…
daily, moment by moment. 

To come to Him.
To listen.
And to obey.

That requires me to pay attention to Him and stay focused on what's important.

 

I have to stop and take time to spend with Him.

He will show me what to do.

I just need to obey what He shows me…

even when it feels like a very small step.

 

 

 

Is This Mine To Carry?

In the last post, I told you to ask God:

“Lord, is this actually mine?”

Because sometimes the problem isn’t just that you don’t know what to do next.

 

Sometimes…

you’re actually carrying something that God never intended for you to carry at all.

 

Sometimes He's asked me to put something down.

 

When you’re carrying something God never asked you to carry…

everything can feel unclear.

What you're carrying may feel very heavy.

 

Have you thought lately that things feel somehow harder than they should?

 

 

 

God's Working

Don’t panic or try to figure everything out yourself.

He may be drawing you back to Himself. Go to Him.

 

I like to ask Him very simply:

“Lord, what do You want me to do today?”

 

Not next year...

or even next month...

and definitely not,

"Please show me Your whole plan."

 

Just tell me the next step.

Show me what you want me to do today.

That’s where clarity comes. 

That next step is often simpler than you think…
and it lifts the heaviness.

 

Here are some ways He's answered:

  💖 Have a conversation with _____
  💖 Finish that thing you started
  💖 Let go of that other thing you were thinking of doing today
  💖 Cancel those plans and Rest
  💖 Spend time with Me in my Word and in prayer

 

Psalm 119:105

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."

 

 

A lamp doesn’t show you everything.

It shows you only the next step.

 

That’s how God leads.

Through your relationship with Him and dependence on Him.

He draws you back to Himself.

He Will Set The Pace

You may feel behind or that you're missing out.

Have you ever found yourself racing ahead of God?

I have.

The next step might feel like slowing down or that you'll be left in the dust.

You may find you have more questions or feel like you've lost control.

 

God is asking you to trust Him…
and come to Him.

I know how that feels.

Each time you are in this situation, God proves Himself faithful.

 

And that builds your trust in Him.

You start to KNOW Him better, and trust Him more.

 

Stay close to Him…
and take the next step He shows you.
