This Is Why It Feels So Hard (Even When You Know God Called You)
This Is Why It Feels So Hard (Even When You Know God Called You)
You’re showing up.
You’ve been doing what you planned to do.
Staying faithful.
Keeping things moving ahead.
But something feels… off.
It doesn't happen all the time,
or in a way that is very easy to explain.
Just enough that you've noticed it.

I sat down one morning to do something I had planned.
It was on my schedule.
I knew what to do.
But the minute I looked at it…
I felt heaviness.
I felt like,
“I can’t do this.”
That used to bother me a lot.
I would’ve pushed through anyway,
and gotten it done just to stay on track.
But I’ve learned something over the years.
So instead of pushing through immediately…
I stopped, and I went to the Lord.
I’ve learned that I need to ask Him to direct my day and my steps.
So, I took it to Him and talked to Him about it.
I stayed there sitting at His feet.
This time, there wasn’t an urgency to just get it done.
There was just peace.

If you've gotten caught up in looking at what everyone else is doing, comparing yourself, or copying others…
remember, God created you uniquely for His purpose.

This day, a quiet peace came over me, and a sense that I didn’t need to do that thing I'd planned… right then.
The thought came that I could move it to another block of time in my week's schedule.
I could trade a different block of time in the future for this one and do what I'd planned today at another time in the week.
Not right away.
It would still get done.
Just… later.
That morning, I gave myself space.
I received peace from the Lord.
He led me to spend extra time with HIm.
I felt Him calling me to spend more time in dedicated prayer.
So, I spent time with Him.
I stayed close, quiet, and...
listened.
Other times, I can come back to the task later in the day.
And it will feel different.
The heaviness won't be there.
I can do it after I've spent time with Him.
Other times, He removes it entirely from my to-do list.
And, still other times, He gives me strength to get it done or at least to begin.
Walking in His will doesn't mean it will always feel easy.
But He gives peace and light for the next step.
He's always faithful, because He promises to do that.
Psalm 119:105
"His Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path."
That has happened many times.
I remember a time when something looked good.
It made sense. It was all planned.
I thought it was something I was to do.
But then, God suddenly made me very aware that it wasn't something I was to do at all.
I read a verse this week where the Israelites had planned something, hired help to do it, and the prophet had told the leader, "No. God doesn't want you to do it."
The leader naturally said, "But, I've spent all this money to get it done!"
The prophet reminded him that it's nothing to God to reimburse him with that and much more.
Just obey.
I've learned I must bring everything to Him.
He always gives peace and clarity.
There doesn't need to be pressure just because someone gave me an assignment, either.
It doesn't always mean I have to carry it.
I must ask Him if this is from Him.
I don’t have to carry something just because it is handed to me.
God will give you wisdom and discernment.
Just go to Him.

Psalm 119:105
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
He doesn't show you your life's plan all at once.
I don’t always know more than the next step.
Sometimes I don’t even know that until I stop long enough to ask.
I need to go to Him and ask:
“Lord… what do You want me to do today?
What do You want me to do right now?"
And then I must stay long enough to hear His answer.
I may need to come back to Him in the middle of my day.
Some days, more than once.
There are days when the next step is simple.
- He may tell me to talk to someone
- Maybe I am supposed to finish something I've started
- Sometimes He leads me to let something go
- And sometimes He tells me to rest
- Often He leads me to spend more time with Him
Time blocking has been valuable in my weekly planning.
There are days when I move a block to later…
and that is exactly where it belongs.
I’m learning to recognize when I feel this way as His leading.
And not to ignore it.

Final Thought
You don’t have to force your way through your day.
Pushing through isn't the answer.
There's a reason you feel this way.
He wants to lead you.
He doesn't expect you to figure everything out on your own. Or ahead of time.
He's inviting you to stay close to Him.
To bring everything to Him...
And let Him lead you… one step at a time.
